B)
Project justification |
|
| |
|
|
| |
 |
The
Director
of the
project,
Demar
Guerra,
builder,
designer
and Brazilian
wood
specialist,
decided
it was
time
for him
to pass
on his
knowledge
to the
young
generation
as well
as the
market
he has
aquired
in his
35 years
of activity.
Demar Guerra has settled his firm in the
municipality of Fortim, a fishermen’s
port on the coast of the Ceará state.
He justifies the setting up of the school “Casa
da Duna” for the following reasons
: |
| |
- The
coastal
North-East
of
Brazil
and
particularly
the
Ceará part
atracts
many
investors
of
the
tourist
field,
generating
a good
number
of
construction
sites,
hotels, « pousadas »,
condominiums,
private
houses,
etc.
- The
Fortim
and
region
community
is
suffering
of
the
decrease
of
the
fishing,
the
almost
only
paid
activity
of
the
municipality,
leaving
a lot
of
workers
unemployed.
The
population,
mainly
the
younger
generation,
needs
new
education
and
diversification.
- The
region
owns
a long
tradition
in
shipbuilding.
The
fishing
activity
disappearing,
there
is
no
more
need
for
new
ships.Terefore,
the
builders’ enterprises
are
closing
and
the
professional
knowledge
of
shipbuilding
are
about
to
be
lost.
Demar
Guerra
intends
to
recover
a part
of
this
know-how
and
adapt
it
to
new
activities
and
new
markets.

C)
Goals |
|
| |
|
|
| |
 |
Open
an apprenticeship
school
with
practice
workshops,
classes
for professional
theory
lessons
and general
knowledge.
Duration
of the
apprenticeship:
2 years
in average,
depending
of the
capacities
of the
pupil.
The apprentice
will
get a
small
salary
and will
become
semi-professional
after
one year.
At the
end of
the 2
years’ apprenticeship,
he’ll
come
out of
the school
with
solid
knowledge
in his
specialty,
giving
him the
best
chances
on the
work
market
and in
life
in general. |

F)
Funds'
request |
|
| |
|
|
| |
 |
To
operate
and develop
the school,
we are
seeking
for funds
to:
- Build
up
a stock
of
material
for
the
first
two
semesters
of
activity
- Build
supplementary
installation
- Buy
equipment
and
tools
- Acquire
vehicles
- Increase
the
surface
of
land
to
secure
access
of
the
trucks
and
build
simple
accomodation
for
teachers
and
masters.
|
| |
|
| |
For
instance,
a type
of sponsoring
could
be made
by potential
clients
of the
school,
such
as property
developers
establishing
tourist
projects
in the
region,
builders,
etc.
They
could
order
and advance
the funds
for elements
of woodwork
they
need
for their
buildings
such
as: roof
structures,
doors,
windows,
furniture,
etc.
Their
capital
will
be returned
with
the finished
products.
Estimated
cost
to
start
operating
the
school:
R$ 480.000,00
(four
hundred
and eighty
thousand
reais)
= +/-
$ 220.000.-
(two
hundred
and twenty
thousand
US dollars) |
